Art Projects for the 2018-2019 school year:
1. Illuminated Letters- This lesson is our introductory lesson, we will review the elements and principles of art while creating Illuminated letters in the style of the artists of the middle ages.
2. Creative Color Wheel- In this lesson, students learn the color wheel and they learn how to create all the colors of the wheel. The students use radial design ideas and look at other cultures for inspiration.
3. One point perspective- Students will create their dream room using one point perspective and color pencil techniques, students can use HGTV to get creative ideas about their dream room.
4. Ceramic Slab Houses- Students create house luminaries from clay slabs. Students learn to work with clay to build a detailed house.
5. Observational Drawing- Through observation students learn to draw what their eyes see onto a 2-D plane, learning value and overlapping to create a sense of realism in their work.
6. Botanical Flowers- through the use of observation and mixed media students will create a flower study using sharpie and watercolors.
7. Printmaking- Printmaking is the process of creating multiple copies from one printing plate. Students will carve their artwork into a matrix and then make several prints of the work.
8. Gesture Drawing/Sculpture-This project starts with observing the human figure in action, students will draw these figures to learn proportions, then they will create a sculpture from one of their drawings.
9. Forgery Paintings- After studying the history of forgery painting, students will create a copy of a famous painting.
10. Family Portraits- Students will learn how to draw facial features and they will learn the proportions of the human face. They will then put all their new knowledge and talents into creating a portrait of a family member or someone they admire and care about.
11. Weaving Project- Students will explore the ancient art of weaving. They will combine colorful yarns with items found in nature to create a small wall hanging.
12. Water Color Trees- Students will learn the basics of water color painting techniques while creating two beautiful landscape paintings.
13. Sign Language Hands- Students will choose a word that is meaningful to them or a personal mantra and using sign language they will draw hands in the position of the letters to spell out the word. This will reinforce their abilities in observational drawing and value skills.
