My self portrait is personal to me because my students took part in making it. I passed out Post It notes and asked my students to reflect on me as a teacher and to write it down on the Post It. I then took the post it notes and used them as the background for my painting. That is why it is so wrinkled, Post Its are not a great substrate for acrylics. Once done, I did some editing in Photoshop. The photography lost some of the details in real life you can see the writing from my students in the background through the thinned acrylics. I then added in some of the post its that I had photographed too. My students had some great reflections of me. I received 150 Post Its and they were very interesting. They made me reflect on what the kids think of me as a person and a professional. Overall it was a very positive experience, I think all teachers should try it.
